The Management of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has on Monday, August 13, 2018, awarded Professor Sakah Mahmud the first ever Administrative Achievements Award (AAA) of the University.

This followed a recommendation from the University’s Evaluation Committee that was considered by the University management.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah, the award isin recognition of the meritorious services of KWASU academic administrators; it is for academics who have distinguished themselves in respect to exceptional administrative leadership qualities.

``This is to appreciate exceptionality and achievements that put this university on the map. It is to acknowledge the dedication of staff who day in day out work exceptionally hard to ensure that KWASU achieves those set objectives, those goals and that vision that enable this university to be what it has become today.’’

Identifying great staff members as a pathway to the University’s greatness, Na’Allah noted that a university with mediocre staff will be a mediocre and that a university where the staff do not want to work will be a slumber university.

He said it is the tradition of the university that its academics who are also administrators will continue to teach, ``at KWASU we do not sleep. KWASU administrators are no just administrators but also teachers; best of teachers. This award has come to celebrate our academic administrators who are working magic not because they want anybody to see them but because they are determined that this is their university’’.

Professor Kazeem Gbolagade, Provost College of Information and Communication Technology and recipient KWASU’s first Professional Achievement Award, also speaking at the event, said quality staff and quality teaching are key to attaining a world-class.

He pointed that the award was part of the management’s strategies of sustaining and maintaining quality of staff, adding that one could place it under staff welfare, staff motivation or reward of excellence.

``This award is meant for KWASU’s academics who have distinguished themselves in respect to exceptional administrative leadership qualities. There are several avenues for professors in this University to be celebrated. This award is awarded based on their meritorious service to the University; those who have distinguished themselves as astute administrators in several capacities. It could be Directors, Deans, Provosts, Deputy Vice-Chancellors and so on.

``The awardees are usually people without blemish in their conduct and characters and selfless in their services to the University. AAA is awarded based on the recommendation of the University evaluation committee is considered and awarded by the KWASU management. This award will form part of KWASU’s annual rituals because it is going to hold annually from now on.’’

``Every year, it will be advertised or announced by the Registry Department and qualified academics will apply. And anybody that is chosen as winner by the University Evaluation committee will be announced and a Plague and Letter of Excellence will be presented to the awardee(s).’’

Gbolagade commended the University management for this feat while also encouraging colleagues continue to work hard in whatever capacity they find themselves.

Remarking, Professor Mahmud, the recipient of the award and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration of the University expressed his gratitude to the University management for this generous act.

He said he appreciated the gesture of the Vice-Chancellor towards him right from the onset as it had shaped him into who he is.

``Right from the beginning, the VC has identified me as somebody he can trust and give assignments to and without giving me the assignments, my production would have been less.’’

``I hope this will be a motivation to my colleagues; university management is a collective effort,’’ he submitted.
