Meet Onookome Okomethe Associate Director of CiNNeMA

Onookome Okome is full professor of African literature and cinema. He studied for the PhD at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and currently teaches in the Department of English and Film Studies, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. Well known as one of the foremost scholars of the popular Nigerian cinema, Nollywood, his most recent include“Islam et Cinema en Afrique de l'ouest,” Tresor de Islam en Afrique (Paris 2017), "African in Nollywood, Nollywood in Africa," Global Africa (California 2016) and "Nollywood: A Cinema of Stories,” Transnational Media (London: John Wiley and Sons, 2019). He researches in Anglophone African literature, critical race theory, abject literatures and postcolonial theory and criticism.

 

 

 

Meet Elizabeth Olayiwola the Coordinator CiNNeMA

Elizabeth Olayiwola teaches film production and studies at the world-class Kwara State University Malete, Nigeria. She is currently concluding her Ph.D. in Nollywood Studies at the University of Abuja. She has gradually began to create a niche for herself, researching Nigerian Evangelical Videos. One of her draft on evangelical videos won her a workshop grant for African Studies Review pipeline for Emerging African Scholar (2017) organised by the African Studies Association USA .  Elizabeth is passionate about merging practice with theory and as such she initiated Nollywood’s Town meets Gown, a forum that provides platform for students and scholars to meet with drivers of the Nigerian film industry.
