Enterprise Creation and Skill Acquisition (ECSA) Programme
This is the programme designed to empower every student of Kwara State University, through re-orientation towards enterprise and job creation. The objective of ECSA Programme is to produce graduates that are job creators and not job seekers. It is therefore mandatory for all undergraduate students of Kwara State University, irrespective of their programme of study, to successfully pass through this five-stage programme before graduation.
• STAGE ONE: Business Opportunities Identification (BOI): GNS 203 (Innovation and Product Development).
• STAGE TWO: Business Value Reorientation (BVR): GNS 204 (Enterprise Creation and Development).
• STAGE THREE: Practical Skills Acquisition (PSA): GNS 303 (Entrepreneurship Mentorship)
• STAGE FOUR: Resource Mobilization and Business PlanWriting (RBP): GNS 304 (Enterprise Resource Planning).
• STAGE FIVE: Practical Business Operations: GNS 401 (Entrepreneurship Practice).
Entrepreneurship Post Graduate (EPS) Programme (Commenced in June/October 2011)
• The Entrepreneurship Post Graduate (EPG) Programme was designed as an ‘Executive’ Programme in business management and entrepreneurship consciously designed to train participants in specific areas of business management and entrepreneurship with the aim of transforming them from irrelevance to relevance in their life pursuit. The introduction of this programme is an attempt by Kwara State University to begin to fulfill the purpose of its establishment as “the University for Community Development. These are Certificate (Short courses) programmes.
A. Venture Capitalism
The venture capitalism certificate-training centers on how entrepreneurs can source and secure fund through venture capital outlets. Venture capital (VC) which is a financial capital provided to early-stage, high-potential, growth startup companies. It is a type of equity financing that addresses the funding needs of entrepreneurial companies that for reasons of size, assets, and stage of development cannot seek capital from more traditional sources, such as public markets and banks.
B. Innovation Management
Innovation management certificate-training centers on how young entrepreneurs can explore the power of innovation in achieving their business objectives. Innovation managementbrings together collaboration and social software, with the specific focus on increasing innovation and knowledge sharing. It further describes the decisions, activities, and practices that move an idea to realization for the purpose of generating business value.
C. Project Management
The TCE Project Management certificate-training focus on how individual business owners can professionally manage projects with modern skills and techniques. Project management, is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities to meet the project requirements. Project management is further described as whole complex activities of planning, organizing, motivating, and controlling resources, procedures and protocols to achieve specific goals in scientific or daily problems.
D. Supply Chain Management
A TCE certificate programme in supply chain management exposes young entrepreneurs to an array of activities involved in value chain delivery. Supply Chain Management (SCM) is the management of the flow of goods and services and all related activities for effective value transfer.
E. Business Strategy Making
A TCE certificate course in Business Strategy will enable business owners to determine and or formulate the best way to meets its long term objectives. Business (or Strategic) management is the art, science, and craft of formulating, implementing and evaluating cross-functional decisions that will enable an organization to achieve its long-term objectives.
F. Organization Design/Structuring
A TCE certificate in organization design will enable entrepreneurs understand the types of organization design and their uses, and provide adequate knowledge on how align business objectives with organization design. Organization Design is focused on formal, guided process for integrating the people, information and technology of an organization.
G. Product Development and Planning
In today’s competitive business world, it is impossible to overrule the place of new product development. New product development is a crucial process for the survival of firms, especially small businesses. This certificate training centers on how new business can develop new and competitive products that will survive the market.
H. Strategies of Managing Small Businesses
Small businesses are increasingly becoming relevant in economic development process. However, to run a successful business, managers need a diverse range of business management skills. This certificate course will equip young entrepreneurs how best to successfully manage and operate small businesses for long run survival and growth.
