Economics Department Hosts Maiden Postgraduate Colloquium
The Department of Economics, Kwara State University, held its maiden postgraduate colloquium on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, with the theme “Artificial Intelligence Simulation and Innovations in Policy Modelling.”
The event brought together academics, researchers, and students to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) tools can be used to replicate the effects of economic policies.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Abdulwaheed Musa, KWASU’s Director of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The address, which was delivered by Dr. Jumoke Falilat Ajao focused on the pivotal role of AI in enhancing research outcomes and shaping evidence-based policies.
The lead lecture by a data analytics expert from Bournemouth University, United Kingdom, Dr. Festus Adedoyin shared insights on the application of AI simulations in policy modelling, particularly in the areas of energy and environmental management.
In his remarks, the Dean of KWASU’s School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Olawale Mashood Aliyu, described the theme of the colloquium as interdisciplinary and timely, emphasizing that the event would expose emerging researchers to modern trends and tools in policy research.
Also speaking at the event, the Dean of the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, Dr. Mustapha Abdulrazaq, who was represented by Dr. Shehu Usman Adam noted that the colloquium provided a valuable platform for students to engage with experts in AI and policy research. He commended the Department of Economics for organizing such a forward-looking initiative.
