Faculty of Arts
Kwara State University, Malete
Brief History of the Faculty
The Faculty of Arts, formerly known as the College of Humanities, Management and Social Sciences, is one of the six pioneer colleges at the inception of the University in 2009. The College was led by late Professor Francis Abiola Irele (Pioneer Provost, 2009–2014), followed by Professor Sakah Mahmud (2014–2019). The current Dean is Professor Abdul Kabir Hussain Solihu (2019–date) with Dr. Aliyu Okuta Ahmad serving as Sub-Dean (2020–date).
Following the University’s transition from a collegiate to a faculty management system in 2020, the College was renamed the Faculty of Humanities, Management and Social Sciences. In June 2023, it was split into the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences. Over the last 14 years, it has grown to become one of the largest faculties in the University by student enrolment and academic staff strength, with broad undergraduate and postgraduate offerings.
Several staff of the Faculty currently hold critical administrative positions across the University, including the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Dean of Student Affairs, and Directors of key Centres and Units.
