Welcome to Faculty of Education

Welcome Note

I most heartily welcome you to the Faculty of Education. The Faculty of Education focuses on producing competent and effective teachers who will in turn provide mentorship and inspiration to the youths of the nation so that they can be self-sufficient and contribute meaningfully to the development of the nation. In the faculty, we emphasize the study and practice of teaching. The faculty ensures that students are taught theories and methods of teaching by adopting modern curriculum design. A very important component of the faculty’s function is to provide students with practical experience in the classroom with an emphasis on modern instructional approaches utilizing new technologies in the process. The students also gain industrial experience through a well-supervised Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme programme (SIWES) so that they can be self-employed, employ others and create weal.

Brief History of the Faculty

Faculty of Education was one of the pioneering Faculties established from the inception of the University in 2009. The faculty formally started as a College in Malete Campus in 2009 with four programs namely; Business Education, Early Childhood and Primary Education, Human Kinetics and Health Education, and Special Education.

The pioneer Provost was Prof. N.B. Oyedeji and he managed the faculty for one year (2009-2010). Prof. Mohammed Gambari took over from Prof. Oyedeji in 2010 and administered the College from 2010 to 2020. The College was renamed Faculty of Education by the late Vice Chancellor, Prof. Muhammed Akanbi, SAN. Prof. Titus A. Umoru was appointed as the Dean in 2020 and he is currently administering the faculty.

Mission

Our mission is to prepare and empower students to become effective and ethical educators who are committed to the well-being of their students and the betterment of society. To achieve this mission, the Faculty of Education typically has several goals and objectives which include:

1. Providing students with a strong foundation in education theory and practice.
2. Promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
3. Encouraging students to engage in reflective practice and continuous learning.
4. Fostering a sense of social responsibility and civic engagement.
5. Supporting the development of a diverse and inclusive learning community.

Vision

Our vision is to be a leader in the field of education, known for producing highly skilled and compassionate educators who haved been equiped to make impact on students and communities. This may involve collaborating with local schools and community organizations and conducting research that advances the field of education and effective teaching practices.

Achievements/Milestones/Plans

The faculty held an international conference in 2021 on the theme ‘Teaching and Learning in Post Covid-19 Era’. The faculty has a faculty-based journal named KWASU International Journal of Education, (KIJE). The journal, which is also available online has reached the 5th volume and proudly disseminating knowledge to professional educators and scholars worldwide. Professor Titus A. Umoru, the Dean of the Faculty delivered the university's 10th Inaugural Lecture on 18th January 2022. The faculty collaborated with Maxim Nyasa IT Solutions Nigeria, a Non-Governmental Organization in a Learning Transformation Training for student teachers in the faculty of Education. This training lasted for a week from 1th to 23rd June, 2023. The students who participated obtained certificates. The NGO also donated twenty Desktop computers to the faculty. This gesture from Maxim Nyasa IT Solutions Nigeria has complimented the effort of the university to provide the needed ICT infrastructure to the faculty.
