Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete
Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, is an institution of higher learning owned by the Kwara State Government, Nigeria. It has attained a prominent position in the comity of universities in Nigeria.
KWASU began academic operations in October 2009 with lectures starting in December 2009. The pioneer set comprised five hundred and fifty (550) students across five (5) Colleges:
- Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine
- Education
- Humanities, Management and Social Sciences
- Information and Communication Technology
- Pure and Applied Sciences
The Faculty of Engineering and Technology was established in 2010 as the sixth faculty. In 2019, the University transitioned from the collegiate system to faculties. The Faculty of Law, the seventh faculty, was accredited by both the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Council for Legal Education in 2020.
Postgraduate programmes commenced during the 2014/2015 academic session with the establishment of the School of Postgraduate Studies.
The Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences began operations in 2022 following NUC approval. In March 2023, the Faculty of Humanities, Management and Social Sciences was unbundled to create the Faculties of Arts and Management & Social Sciences. In 2024, the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences was carved out of Basic Medical Sciences, and in the 2024/2025 academic session, the Faculty of Environmental Sciences was established at the Osi campus. This brought the total number of faculties to 11.
To date, KWASU has graduated thirteen (13) sets of first-degree students and ten (10) sets of postgraduate students. With a rich history of academic excellence and innovation, KWASU continues to stand as a leader in higher education in Nigeria, dedicated to helping students succeed.
