KWASU Convened a Capacity Training Workshop on Climate Adaptation for Tomato Value Chain actors in North West
Kwara State University’s Dr. Ololade Latifat Abdulrahman who is also a research fellow of the Future Africa Research and Leadership (FAR-LeaF), on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, convened a capacity training workshop on climate adaptation for tomato value chain actors in North West at the NAERLS Ultra Modern Hall, Zaria, Kaduna State. The capacity training is part of her broader research project titled “Climate Vulnerability and Adoptive Capacity of Tomato Value Chain Actors” which seeks to assess how climate change affects different actors along the tomato value chain and identify practical adaptation measures to build resilience.
More than 100 tomato farmers, processors, marketers and value-chain actors from Nigeria’s North-West geopolitical zone participated in the workshop that Future-Africa Research and Leadership Fellowship (FAR-Leaf II) Programme in collaboration with the Nigeria Stored Products Research Institute (NSPRI) and the Nigeria Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (NIFAAS) partnered to organise.
The convener, Dr. Ololade Latifat Abdulrahman described tomato value chain as a complex system that involves multiple actors who are all vulnerable to the impact of climate change. She stressed the need to promote sustainable processing hubs, agribusiness growth for job creation and food sustainability.
“By strengthening climate adaption across the value chain, we can build a more resilient and competitive tomato industry that supports food security and economic development,” she added.
The findings from the research is expected to support evidence-based policymaking, strengthen agricultural extension services, and guide future interventions to help farmers, processors, marketers, and transporters adapt to changing climatic conditions.
