KWASU Drivers, Mechanics Trained on Medical and Financial Planning
The Mechanical and Transportation Unit of Kwara State University’s Works Department organized a one-day sensitization Programme for the University’s drivers and mechanics. The event, which was held on Friday, September 19,2025, focused on promoting awareness of personal medical and financial wellbeing.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Professor Moshood Mahmood Jimba, reaffirmed the University’s dedication to initiatives that enhance the wellbeing of its workforce. He, commended the organizers for what he described as “a timely and impactful event,” stressing that staff wellbeing remains central to the institution’s productivity and overall success.
“The University places high value on every staff member and is committed to creating continuous opportunities for both personal and professional growth,” the Vice-Chancellor added.
Also speaking, the Registrar, Dr. Kikelomo W. Sallee acknowledged the vital role of all staff in the smooth running of the University. She noted that the workshop reflects KWASU’s broader mission to foster a healthy, informed, and empowered workforce capable of contributing meaningfully to institutional advancement.
The convener of the programme, Engr. Shakira Adedeji expressed appreciation to the University Management for its support, noting that the initiative was conceived to address staff development needs beyond technical training. She explained that the programme aimed to empower participants with critical knowledge on health and finance, which are essential to improving quality of life and overall job performance.
The sensitization programme featured two keynote lectures delivered by prominent university officials. The Director of KWASU Senior Citizens Centre, Dr. Nimat Idris delivered an engaging session on preventive healthcare, highlighting the importance of routine medical checks, stress management, and adopting a healthy lifestyle.
On the financial side, a Deputy Bursar in the Bursary department, Dr. Folorunsho Dauda led a practical session on personal budgeting, savings culture, and long-term financial planning. His presentation emphasized the need for financial discipline and planning, especially in preparation for life after active service.
Participants responded positively to the programme, describing it as enlightening and relevant. Many expressed gratitude to the University for recognizing their contributions and investing in their holistic development.
