Kwasu Lauds Kwsg On Culvert Reconstruction

The culvert linking Shao and Malete roads in the Moro Local Government Area of Kwara state, which was washed away by rain last year, has been reconstructed, and motorists have begun plying the road again.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, Malete, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, who inspected the facility recently, described the reconstruction as “a promise made and a promise kept” by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Professor Jimoh who was visibly excited at the new culvert commended the Kwara State Government for speedily ensuring the reconstruction, which would ensure the safety and comfort of not only members of the University Community but other users of the road, given the significance of the road in providing access to that part of the state.

Professor Jimoh noted that while the reconstructed culvert was done more sturdily than what was washed away by last year’s rain, he added that with the growing unpredictability of weather patterns, the new culvert would allow for larger volumes of water to pass through it than before.

This he noted would give motorists and other users of the road a higher sense of security even as the rains are about to commence for the year.

Professor Jimoh stated further that the commitment of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to ensuring that all sectors in the state was working efficiently was heartwarming, urging the University Community to work more in support of the vision of the State Government.

The University Don added that the road would bring a lot of relief to the University Community, among other users, especially as commencement of the second semester was just around the corner.

On Tuesday, July 18, 2023, the culvert that connected Shao to Malete road collapsed after heavy rains washed away a large portion.

The Kwara State Ministry of Works and Transport immediately swung into action by inspecting the collapse while steps were swiftly taken to provide a temporary access road to commuters on the busy route.

The state government also promised to reconstruct it as soon as the rains and volume of water passing through subsided.
