Kwara State University, Malete, will play host to the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists, NAPE, and the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society, NMGS, in August for the 2025 Mini Conference.
The Vice-Chancellor of KWASU, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, who received an entourage from NAPE, NMGS, and Universities Assistance Program, UAP, at a courtesy visit to assess facilities to be used for the conference, stated the readiness of the University to host the event.
Professor Jimoh sought the collaboration of the bodies in the development of geology and mining engineering programs of the University.
“KWASU is eager to have industry partnerships with the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists and the Nigerian Mining and Geophysics Society for all our mining related programs,” he added.
The President of NAPE, Mr. John Bosco, who commended the Vice-Chancellor for accepting to host the 2025 Mini Conference, stated that the gathering would be a value investment for KWASU as the event draws participants from all parts of the country.
He added that since taking the mantel of leadership in 2024, KWASU was the first institution NAPE would visit.
Mr Bosco identified that the association under his leadership was committed to fostering enhanced industry-academia relationship for greater human capital development with KWASU being in a good position to be one of the beneficiaries of the proposed Centre for Excellence in Petroluem Studies project.
In their comments, the Vice President of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society, Dr. Umar Hassan, and the Chairman of the Universities Assistance Program, Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Obi stressed the roles of the bodies to include bridging the gaps between industry and academia and facilitating greater involvement of industry in academic breakthroughs.
Highlights of the courtesy visit were the inauguration of the local organising committee, chaired by KWASU’s Head of Department of Geology, Dr. Jimoh Ajadi, and the presentation of gifts.
