KWASU’S DR. AMINU EMERGES NMGS FINANCIAL SECRETARY, RECEIVES AWARD
Dr. Shakirat Mustapha AMINU of Kwara State University’s Department of Geology and Mineral Science has been elected as the Financial Secretary of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS).
The election took place during the 262nd meeting of the council held at Rosmohr Gold Hotel and Suites, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on March 21, 2026.
The council meeting was part of the activities that preceded the 61st Annual International Conference and Exhibition of the society, which took place between the 22nd and 27th of March, 2026.
At the award night of the society, Dr. Aminu was also presented with the NMGS President’s award for Young Miner/Geoscientist 2026. This award recognises young professionals who have made an impact in the field of mining engineering/geology.
Dr. Shakirat is a corporate member of NMGS and a registered member of the Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG) with a Bachelor’s degree in Geology from the University of Ibadan, a Master’s and Ph.D. in Mineral Exploration from PAULESI, University of Ibadan both through full scholarships sponsored by the African Union Commission.
