Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, is to partner with an American AI Ecosystem Builder company, DAIMLAS, to launch the NUC AI Centre of Excellence (NUCAICE), an initiative of the National Universities Commission (NUC) that is aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s capacity in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and driving digital innovation across the Nigerian university system.

The proposed NUCAICE, which is now operational as a digital ecosystem platform, is designed to support AI-focused education, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The platform is designed to foster collaborative research, drive institutional innovation, support AI curriculum and laboratory development, and enhance the national AI knowledge base by enabling universities to leverage shared infrastructure and expertise.

DAIMLAS, on February 7, 2025, signed an MOU with the NUC to launch the NUCAICE. They are to guide universities in Nigeria with their AI goals and will support KWASU in AI Certification courses through DAIMLAS’s University partner in Massachusetts; the establishment of Bachelor’s in AI & Master’s in Applied AI Degrees with computational resources by an American Technology platform company, and provide collaboration on an AI in Government Lab for Kwara State.

The Chief AI Ecosystem Builder & CEO of DAIMLAS, Joseph Wehbe, in an official letter of support and collaboration, stated the intention to also explore a joint effort with KWASU to launch an AI in Government Lab as a regional centre for AI in Government Services, AI Ethics and Policy, and Applied AI for Economic Development.

DAIMLAS, ranked #1 globally and based in Princeton, NJ, USA and with local support in Nigeria, is a member of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Computer Science Artificial Intelligence CSAIL Lab Alliances.
