Brief History of the Unit

Established in 2020, the Physical Planning Unit (PPU) coordinates all physical development programs of the University. Before its creation, these functions were outsourced to Project Management Consulting firms and the Works Department. The PPU, led by a director reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor, has effectively driven development activities in line with University expectations.

Mission / Vision / Goals / Responsibilities

1. Serve as a clearing house for all capital and infrastructural projects of the University.
2. Provide professional services to the Vice-Chancellor and University committees.
3. Prepare, monitor, and update the University Master Plan.
4. Liaise with departments to ensure projects are conceptualized and executed efficiently.
5. Facilitate appointment of project/management consultants and standardize contractor evaluation.
6. Ensure all designs conform to NUC guidelines and master plan.
7. Coordinate consultants throughout project stages.
8. Ensure projects follow the Federal Government Due Process Procurement Procedure.
9. Prepare pre-contract and tender documents for the University Tenders Board.
10. Monitor construction projects from inception to completion.
11. Provide development control services and grant planning permits.
12. Ensure due diligence, National Building Code, and professional best practices.
13. Submit progress reports on all University projects.
14. Perform other lawful duties as directed by the Vice-Chancellor.
