KWASU is a conventional university, but a technologically inclined institution that is productivity-driven, goal-oriented and evolving with emerging global trends.

Brief History of the Unit and Progression of the Student Affairs Unit
The Student Affairs Unit, Kwara State University, Malete is as old as the University itself, having been established as one of the foundation units of the University at its inception in 2009.
The Unit has a total of thirty (30) members of staff among which are the Dean, the Sub-Deans, administrative staff, a secretary, hall officers, porters and checkers.
The under-listed staff have served as Dean, Student Affairs: Dr. A. S. Mohammad (now a professor) as the pioneer Dean (2009- 2014), Professor A.G.F. Alabi (2014-2018), Dr. Ibrahim Laro Abubakar (now a professor) (2018 – 2020) and Professor Moshood Mahmood Jimba as present Dean, from March 2020 to date. In addition, the following staff have served as Student Affairs Officer: Alhaji Adelodun Musa 2009 – 2020, Deacon Michael O. Dada 2020 to date.
The Student Affairs Unit, under the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, has four hostels under its control, namely General Hostel “A”, “B”, “C” and “D”, for female students. As the student population grew, more hostels were acquired both on and off the campus, to accommodate both male and female students. The hostels are referred to as Public Private Partnership (PPP) hostels.

Mission/Vision/Goals
Mission:
- To assist the students to identify their innate abilities, and competencies and develop their capabilities, potentials and talents.
- To expose them to the theory and practice of social behaviour and how to manage and solve the immediate challenges facing them.
- To orientate them in learning and characters, in order to effectively enhance the town and gown relationship project of the University.
- To provide conducive and standard welfarism towards the development of sound academic skills required for excellence.
- To mobilize the prospective corps members for the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Vision:
- To stand out as the most caring Student Affairs Unit of 21st-century world-class Universities, and make our students become global citizens with local content.
Goal
- To prepare students and staff that would provide quality developmental processes appropriate for the environment to enhance the University standard of a “World Class University”.
- To provide highly competent facilities, staff and standard norms necessary to ensure discipline among students and make the learning environment conducive and interesting for students.
- To train the students on the path of honor, dignity, integrity and honesty.
Programmes/Activities
- Allocation of on and off-campus hostels to students.
- Maintenance of facilities at the hostels.
- Provision of security at the Hostels.
- Mobilisation of prospective corps members for the National Youth Service Corps in the three streams I, II & III within the year.
- Facilitating the distribution of the NYSC Certificate of Exemption.
- Serving as the Secretariat for the Students’
- Disciplinary Committee.
- Monitoring of Students’ Union/Faculties/Departmental elections.
- Registration and monitoring of Associations/Unions’ social activities on and off campus.
- Partnership with the University Safety Unit, Human Rights Commission, EFCC, NOA, NDLEA and other governmental and non-governmental agencies in monitoring the general activities of the students on and off campus.
- Partnering with Faculties to organise Orientation for new students, annually.

Achievements/Milestones/Plans
- Introduction of solar energy as a major source of power in all the 32 hostels under the Deanery. This is a major achievement for the Deanery and the PPP committee, as it eliminated the diesel regime that was in place in the past. In some of the hostels, the students now enjoy electricity supply 24/7, while some others are close to that.
- Ensuring a regular supply of water, a good sewage system and cleanliness of the environment.
- Effectiveness of the staff in handling administrative matters.
- Enhancement of staff discipline, especially the porters.
- Creating a robust work relationship with the leadership of the Students’ Union, leading to a very peaceful atmosphere on the campus.
