The Faculty of Arts of Kwara State University, KWASU, Malete, in conjunction with the African Studies Institute, University of Oklahoma, USA, and Abdul Hamid Abu Sulayman Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia organised an international conference with the theme “The Arts and the Advancement
of Humanity.”

The well attended conference which was held from July 7 to 11, 2025, was declared open by the KWASU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Alade Jimoh who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor,Administration, Professor Moshood Mahmood Jimba.

Professor S. Ademola
Ajayi of the Department of History, University of Ibadan, delivered the Keynote titled “The Humanities in the Age of
Globalisation: Which way forward?” while Professor AbdulRasheed Abiodun Adeoye of the Performing Arts Department, University of Ilorin, and Assistant Professor Thomas R. Fenn of the Department of Anthropology, University of Oklahoma, USA, gave lead papers titled “The Post(s) of Humanity in the Humanities” and “Durbi Takusheyi, an Example of Past and Present in Nigerian Cultural Identity
and Heritage” respectively.

Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of KWASU and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah, chaired the opening Ceremony while the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Abdus-Sami’i Imam Arikewuyo was the host.
