The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe has commended Kwara State University (KWASU) for initiating programmes that will potentially reduce youth unemployment in the state.
The Commissioner gave the commendation on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at a one-day entrepreneurship workshop organized for Arabic and Islamic schools by KWASU’s Centre for Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training (CTVET) in collaboration with the Centre for Islamic Contemporary Studies and Arabic Documentation.
Dr. Olohungbebe described the initiative as timely, noting that expanding access to practical, skills based education will strengthen human capital development in the state.
The Chief Host and Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, who was represented by the Director of the Centre for Research and Development, Professor Abdulkabir Solihu, said entrepreneurship training is a key element that will bridge the gap between traditional teaching and learning models in Arabic and Islamic schools and contemporary economic demands.
Professor Jimoh who stressed the university’s readiness to partner with Arabic and Islamic Schools as well as othe relevant agencies to develop a framework for a curriculum on entrepreneurship training for Arabic and Islamic Schools, said the workshop demonstrates KWASU’s dedication to community development and educational innovation.
Convener of the programme and Director of the Centre for Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training, Professor Mubaraq Sanni, emphasised the need for Arabic and Islamic schools to embrace practical skill acquisition as part of their curriculum, adding that the workshop, which had the theme “Glocalising Entrepreneurship Education: The KWASU Model for Transforming Arabic and Islamic Schools,” was designed to equip educators and administrators with knowledge and strategies for integrating entrepreneurship training into Arabic and Islamic education.
The Director KWASU Centre for Islamic Contemporary Studies and Arabic Documentation, Professor Muhammad Jum’ah Alaso, highlighted the importance of merging Islamic scholarship with entrepreneurship to empower learners to become economically productive.
Guest speakers at the workshop included Mr. Nasir Abdulqodir, Sheikh Mukhtar Luqman Isalekoto, and the Director of KWASU Consultancy Services, Dr. Shehu Usman Adam.
