KWASU celebrates 2026 World Day for Cultural Diversity in style
Colourfully dressed in different cultural attires, students of Kwara State University, Malete, joined the world to celebrate the 2026 World Day for Cultural Diversity with pomp and fanfare on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is an annual UNESCO celebration every May 21.
Indigenous and cultural associations on campus were all represented as they paraded around the campus before converging at the university’s Mini Convocation Arena.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, principal officers of the university, staff, and students were entertained by cultural groups and individual students through traditional drama sketches, oral poetry, cultural dance performances, and traditional food exhibitions.
Professor Jimoh, while addressing the students, said the maiden edition of the World Day for Cultural Diversity at KWASU reflects the vision of the university as a multicultural institution where students from different cultures and communities learn, interact, and grow together in peace and mutual respect.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the Coordinator, Student Leadership, and Policy Engagement, Mr. Uthman Aliyu Abdulkadir, for coordinating the event.
The celebration also featured professional music artists such as Iyabo Balu, a traditional musician known for her brand of music called “Balu”; Remilekun Mariam Kasali-Adelabu, popularly known as Remmychanter; and the Baalaro drummers.
